She's Got Wings
Laura Kimpton, the artist, is fascinated by words. Kimpton is most celebrated for her Monumental Word sculptures — often over 100 feet wide or 30 feet tall — made from sheets of steel that are exhibited and installed in sites across the world.
This creative project included a new brand identity, a responsive website and a 200 page book — all just in time for one of the worlds most prominent stages for contemporary art, Art Basil Miami.
BRAND IDENTITY / PRINT / RESPONSIVE WEBSITE
Making art — for other artists — is an art in itself. Kimpton’s brand needed to reflect her unique style, but still cleanly translate to print and digital mediums.
I wanted her art to have much space as possible to present itself. The branding needed to be minimal, but impactful.
Brandon Grotesque was chosen as the font. Its clean lines defined it apart from the accompanying chaotic art pieces. Yet the font offered unique characters and odd spacing that conveyed creativity throughout.
The website was built as an endless flow from project to project, keeping with the minimal aesthetic to let the artwork breathe.
The sidebar navigation was designed to flow along side the art, never taking you fully away from the main experience.
The 200 page art catalogue, Myth Words and Fire represented the entirety of Kimpton’s work to date. An austere presentation let the work speak loudly and maintained the brand identity from the web to the physical pages.
